The Grove Music Festival presents a program titled Romantic Violin Favorites at 7:30 p.m. Friday, October 30 at Chapel Lane Presbyterian Church, 5501 Jefferson Ave. Featured artists will be Hal Grossman, violin, and Lisa Kristina, piano. Tickets are available at the door for $10.
Grossman will be joined by Kristina in a concert featuring works of Dvorak, Schumann, Hemenger and Hubay. Mr. Grossman will conduct a master-class for Midland Public School string players on Friday morning, October 30. In association with the Midland Music Teachers Association, a piano master-class will be held at 4 pm, Oct. 30, at Chapel Lane Presbyterian Church.
Hal Grossman, violin, has performed acclaimed concertos and recitals throughout the world and is the founder of The Grossman Method, a healthy, kinesthetic approach to playing the violin. He holds music performance degrees from the University of Michigan and the Eastman School of Music. He is Associate Professor of Violin at the University of Oklahoma and was formerly on the violin faculty of the Interlochen Center for the Arts and Miami University. Dr. Lisa Kristina began piano studies at age 4, and continued through her years as a student at DePaul University. Dr. Kristina has played keyboard in many orchestras, including the Illinois Philharmonic, Elgin Symphony, Northwest Indiana Symphony, and Rockford Symphony. This past summer, she accompanied for an international choral festival in Vilnius, Lithuania, and also toured that country performing music for violin and piano. She has been an adjunct music professor at Prairie State College since 2002, and continues to work extensively in the Chicago area as a freelance musician.
